Evolve - Getting Started
Getting Started
Step 1
This is a quick tutorial on running a simple simulation.
Go to the "simulation wizard". This will bring up the following dialog:
- Initial energy - is how much total energy exists in the universe. This amount will
remain constant during the simulation. The bigger the number the more organisms
you will have (and the simulator will be slower). A good number is 5,000 - 10,000.
- Genetic Program - A new simulation begins with a single organism. This will be
the organisms starting genetic program.
- Random Seed - the starting seed value for the random number generator
- Shape - this is the boundary of the universe. I suggest elipse or curvy
- Width/Height - This is the size of the universe 1000 x 500 is a good value.
Browse the list of *.CAS files. These are the cell assembly language files. Any
*.CAS file may be used as a starting point.
Step 2: Run the simulator
Press the "continue" button and the simulator will begin. The organism will
reproduce and the universe will suddenly be filled with more and more organisms.
Each time an organism reproduces the genetic program will mutate slighlty.
Step 3: Zooming
Press the "Stop" button to pause the simulation. Now we can zoom into part of the
universe.
Press the "Zoom In" button to view in more detail the selected region.
Step 4: Examine organism
Zoom into a region and select and organism using the mouse.
Press the "Examine" button to examine the organism.
